This came across in a recent post from American Solutions:
I suspect it might give me good reason to go to the movies October 15th.

Author’s Note: While not directly a member of a union, I am the son of a union Ironworker (Now Retired), and have many other friends and family members that are members of various unions.
Labor Day conjures up the last gasp of summer, and typically marks the beginning of the school year, along with the annual Muscular Dystrophy telethon. But, unless you’re a historian, you may not be aware that Labor Day was created by Congress in 1894 at Union’s behest.
In honor of Labor Day, I started to write a piece on the labor unions, and the events that have weakened them. While writing the piece, two stories came out that I believe do a better job than what I could have done with it.
Kyle Olson: Congress Should Abolish Labor Day
Linda Chavez: How Unions lost touch with workers
Now, go take a break, we’ve all deserved it.

I had the chance yesterday to watch Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” Rally, on what would be the 47th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Beck chose the Lincoln Memorial site of the rally as it is situated amongst the many monuments to Washington, Jefferson and Veterans of our many conflicts. The rally itself was billed as non-political, and non-partisan in nature. The selection of the date, according to Beck, was purely coincidental, and the fact of it being the anniversary of the speech was overlooked until after the date was publicly announced.
Rev. Al Sharpton and many members of the NAACP considered the Rally an attempt to overshadow the historical significance of King’s speech, and planned a counter-event to honor the legacy of King.

I admit, I’m a long-time fan of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. So it’s no surprise that I’ve traveled around the area to at least two of three builds.
The first, was to the East Bernard, Texas home of the Kubena family back in January of 2006. Royce Builders removed a mobile home that was unfit for the twin daughters to live in, and provided them with a clean and healthy environment so the girls could actually live at home instead of splitting time between Texas Childrens Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.
Today, I had the opportunity to visit the build site for their latest project, the Johnson Family. Raising 5 girls in a cramped 700 squre foot house, this family is all about giving to the community, putting their needs behind those in the community.

From the fine folks over at Big Government I got word today of a new blog. Congress Shall Make No Law is brought to you by the Institute for Justice and is covering issues surrounding free speech.
Remember the First Amendment to the Constitution reads:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Word has been received that ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming back to Houston.
After previous builds in East Bernard and Kemah, this is the first time the team will build a home for a deserving family in Houston city proper. The location will be announced to the general public soon after the morning “Door Knock” announces it to the winning family.

As if there’s not enough other reasons for Sheila Jackson Lee to be voted out of office, we can add this one:

Around Memorial Day, Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) along with several other Republican Members of Congress introduced a new program. Under his Republican Whip website, this program, YouCut was launched.
The concept is simple, take 5 ideas for cost savings and allow citizens to vote for the one they strongly believe should be cut. Each week, a new set of five items would be presented, and the winning item from the previous week would be brought to the House floor for an up or down vote.

We the people of the United States of America are proud to be a soverign nation, guided by God to pursue our unalienable rights that he has bestowed upon us.
And now for a reason not to forget what this Country’s about, then listen to the late Red Skelton describe the “Pledge of Allegiance” from the 1960’s:
Now, go and enjoy, Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Fireworks.
